Representing business and leisure tourism in the commercial and financial hub of Africa, The Sandton Tourism Association acts on behalf of key stakeholders within both Sandton and the greater Johannesburg area. Business and conferencing is one of the key attributes of Sandton Central (the City Improvement District operating within the boundaries of Sandton Drive, Katherine Street, Rivonia Road and Grayston Drive); the Sandton Convention Centre – Africa’s preferred premier conferencing venue - is the catalyst around which conferencing and business tourism in this area thrives. ORIGIN AND ROLE
Sandton Tourism Association (STA) was established in January 2000 to market business and convention tourism to Sandton in preparation for the opening of Sandton Convention Centre in September 2000.
As per its constitution, STA’s role is to: “Promote and facilitate the effective co-operation of the activities of it’s members with regard to Business and Convention Tourism”. More> In June 2005 the Sandton Tourism Association formalised its relationship with Sandton Central Management District by way of a Memorandum of Understanding to undertake mutually beneficial joint marketing initiatives. The organisations both share an interest in business and leisure tourism; therefore joint projects will include those that promote tourism across the node and are of benefit to both parties. STA benefits from Sandton Central’s expertise in marketing their area, while Sandton Central welcomes STA’s linkages to hotels. More> ACCOMMODATION
